She is also identified differently across traditions\u2014as\u00a0<strong>Atharvana Bhadrakali, Narasimhi, or a Shakti associated with Sharabha<\/strong>. Ugra Shakti is approached through a complementary Shakti<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9c95010 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9c95010\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Shakta Tantra, fierce forms of Devi are often approached through another manifestation of the Divine Mother. A practitioner may therefore combine a fierce deity with a more\u00a0<strong>saumya (peaceful), protective, or regulating form<\/strong>.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This can be understood symbolically as:<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ugra Shakti \u2192 containment \u2192 protection \u2192 integration<\/strong><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So traditions may associate Pratyangira with forms such as\u00a0<strong>Kali, Bhadrakali, Durga or other Devi manifestations<\/strong>, depending on the sampradaya and paddhati.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is better to describe this as\u00a0<strong>shakti-samanvaya<\/strong>\u2014the harmonisation of different aspects of Shakti\u2014rather than claiming that scripture universally says Pratyangira must never be worshipped alone.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8c82dda e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"8c82dda\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a3ca088 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"a3ca088\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">2. The \u201cheat\u201d experienced by a s\u0101dhaka<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e0ff3a1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e0ff3a1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tantric practitioners sometimes describe intense mantra-s\u0101dhana in terms of\u00a0<strong>u\u1e63\u1e47a (heat), tejas (radiance), agni, spanda, or heightened inner intensity<\/strong>.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there is\u00a0<strong>no reliable scriptural basis for saying that every person necessarily experiences literal physical heat when worshipping Pratyangira<\/strong>.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The traditional language is more subtle. Fierce Devi-up\u0101sana is associated with powerful transformation, destruction of obstacles and confrontation with fear, anger, negativity and hostile forces. Modern practitioners may interpret sensations such as heat, sweating, agitation or heightened bodily awareness through this tantric vocabulary. Contemporary practitioner discussions also commonly describe Pratyangira s\u0101dhana as producing an intense or \u201chot\u201d experience, but these are experiential reports rather than proof of a supernatural physical phenomenon.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-39c93b8 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"39c93b8\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c51a48e e-con e-atomic-element e-grid-base e-default-div e-c51a48e-fe0d974\" data-id=\"c51a48e\" data-element_type=\"e-grid\" data-e-type=\"e-grid\" data-interaction-id=\"c51a48e\">\n    <div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-45e2983 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"45e2983\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-efc4393 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"efc4393\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">3. Her Atharvanic connection is particularly important<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-72dfb1a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"72dfb1a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pratyangira has a strong association in later Hindu tradition with\u00a0<strong>Atharvana Bhadrakali<\/strong>\u00a0and Atharvanic mantra traditions. Some traditional accounts connect her worship with rites involving the destruction or neutralisation of\u00a0<strong>k\u1e5bty\u0101<\/strong>, hostile magical forces and other forms of harmful influence.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This explains why her worship acquired such a strong\u00a0<strong>rak\u1e63a\u1e47a (protection), prat\u012bkara (counteraction) and ugra<\/strong>\u00a0character.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is also an important scholarly caution here: identifying the goddess directly with a single Vedic deity called \u201cPratyangira\u201d can oversimplify the history. The developed Pratyangira cult is a product of several layers of\u00a0<strong>Atharvanic, Shaiva, Shakta and tantric traditions<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c538ac8 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"c538ac8\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-27f27d7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"27f27d7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">4. The Sharabha\u2013Narasimha connection<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a1d5393 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a1d5393\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most important theological explanations for Pratyangira\u2019s ferocity comes from traditions surrounding\u00a0<strong>Sharabha and Narasimha<\/strong>.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In certain Shaiva traditions, Sharabha represents an extraordinary Rudra manifestation associated with pacifying or overcoming the terrifying manifestation of Narasimha. Pratyangira becomes associated with this theological complex in later tantric traditions. One traditional account specifically describes the later Hindu tantric stream as pairing Pratyangira with the\u00a0<strong>Sharabha form of Shiva<\/strong>.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This produces a powerful symbolic triad:<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Narasimha \u2014 extreme protective fury<\/strong><br><strong>Sharabha \u2014 supreme Rudra force \/ containment<\/strong><br><strong>Pratyangira \u2014 fierce feminine Shakti<\/strong><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exact theology differs between Shaiva, Vaishnava and Shakta traditions, so these should not be presented as one universally accepted Hindu doctrine.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6b4bc25 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"6b4bc25\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b6fdf7f e-con e-atomic-element e-grid-base e-default-div e-b6fdf7f-84f1dbd\" data-id=\"b6fdf7f\" data-element_type=\"e-grid\" data-e-type=\"e-grid\" data-interaction-id=\"b6fdf7f\">\n    <div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c172900 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"c172900\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9dd06a1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9dd06a1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">5. Why another Devi may be placed beside her?<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5121465 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5121465\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From a tantric perspective, the accompanying Devi can serve several functions:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>\u0100dh\u0101ra<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 providing a stable spiritual foundation.<\/li><li><strong>Saumyat\u0101<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 balancing an intensely ugra manifestation with a gentler maternal aspect.<\/li><li><strong>Rak\u1e63\u0101<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 establishing a protective field around the s\u0101dhana.<\/li><li><strong>\u015aakti-samanvaya<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 integrating different expressions of the same Mah\u0101\u015bakti.<\/li><li><strong>Kram\u0101<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 placing the fierce practice within an appropriate ritual sequence.<\/li><\/ul><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thus, rather than saying:<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\">\u201c<strong>Pratyangira is too powerful, therefore she cannot be worshipped alone<\/strong> \u201d<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c9767b2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"c9767b2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"590\" height=\"593\" src=\"https:\/\/guptupasana.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/admin-ajax.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-image-670\" alt=\"god photo\" srcset=\"https:\/\/guptupasana.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/admin-ajax.jpg 590w, https:\/\/guptupasana.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/admin-ajax-298x300.jpg 298w, https:\/\/guptupasana.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/admin-ajax-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/guptupasana.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/admin-ajax-12x12.jpg 12w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 590px) 100vw, 590px\">\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-de90e2d e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"de90e2d\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-35c0098 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"35c0098\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">a more traditionally defensible statement is:<\/p><blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cBecause Pratyangira represents an exceptionally ugra and protective dimension of Shakti, many tantric paddhatis place her worship within a larger mandala of Devi, Bhairava or other protective deities. The accompanying deity provides ritual context, balance and protection for the s\u0101dhaka.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And importantly,\u00a0<strong>specific combinations depend upon the lineage, tantra, mantra and guru-parampar\u0101<\/strong>; there is no single universal Pratyangira-puja arrangement.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9e5559b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9e5559b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div style=\"max-width: 1900px;
