Dashamukhi Mahakali – The Supreme Tantric Form of the Divine Mother
Dashamukhi Mahakali, the ten-faced manifestation of Maa Mahakali, is revered in certain Tantric traditions as a profound embodiment of the Dasha Mahavidya—the ten supreme Wisdom Goddesses. Her ten faces, ten arms, and ten legs symbolically represent Her all-encompassing presence, supreme knowledge, and protection in every direction of existence.
In the Tantric tradition followed at Gupt Upasana, sincere worship of Dashamukhi Mahakali is undertaken with devotion, discipline, and proper guidance. Devotees seek Her blessings for protection, courage, spiritual strength, removal of obstacles, and victory over fear and negativity.
It is traditionally believed that the Divine Mother protects Her devotees from the Dasha Dik (the ten directions). Under Her grace, the devotee seeks freedom from fear, unseen negative influences, planetary afflictions (Graha Dosha), hostile intentions, and spiritual disturbances. Scriptures and Tantric traditions also describe Mahakali as the One who transcends time (Mahakala), before whom even Yama, the Lord of Death, is subordinate.
Sacred Mahakali Abhishek Jal
The water used during the ceremonial Abhishek of Dashamukhi Mahakali is regarded in this tradition as sacred and spiritually charged through mantra, worship, and ritual invocation.
Many devotees respectfully keep this Abhishek Jal in their homes as a symbol of the Divine Mother’s blessings and protection.
Traditional Practice
- Keep the Abhishek Jal in the North-East (Ishan) direction of your home or prayer room.
- Preserve it with devotion and respect in a clean, covered vessel.
- Replace the Abhishek Jal regularly by collecting freshly consecrated water from the temple.
Important Instruction
Do not keep the same Abhishek Jal through two consecutive Amavasyas (New Moon days).
According to our temple tradition, devotees should collect newly consecrated Abhishek Jal before or immediately after the next Amavasya and respectfully replace the previous one.
How to Dispose of the Previous Abhishek Jal
When replacing the Abhishek Jal:
- Take your regular bath.
- Before completing the bath, gently pour the remaining Abhishek Jal over your head.
- Recite the sacred mantra that was provided to you by the temple during initiation or guidance.
- Offer your prayers to Maa Mahakali with devotion and gratitude before placing the newly consecrated Abhishek Jal in your home.
